After a tiring day yesterday we went for a short walk before tea (which thankfully Peter was making.) We hadn’t gone far when we spotted something neither of us have ever seen before. Sadly it was dead.

Now that the hedges are cut there are lots of other things that need attention, so today I had a proper gardening day. What with my knee, my shoulder and the weather, these ‘proper’ days have been a bit thin on the ground this year. It’s a wonder things look as good as they do.

In the end we decided to finish the hedge cutting ourselves, hard work doesn’t begin to describe it, but we triumphed in the end as you can see.

Now that’s a question you don’t hear very often, in fact in all my 57 years I don’t think I’ve ever heard it before, and I’ve certainly never said it myself, that is until a couple of days ago.

I love to see butterflies in the garden, sadly there seem to be fewer these days. Strange as it may seem for a gardener, I also like to see caterpillars and often wonder what kind of butterfly or moth they will grow in to.

In 1986 we moved into our first house that had a proper garden. It had belonged to a keen lady gardener who had sadly died, and we bought the house from her son.
