Disappointing

At the beginning of this week the weather forecasters warned of cold temperatures and a severe frost on Wednesday night, time for action then.
Building a garden from scratch is easier said than done, but for 15 years that is exactly what we did at Ravendale House.
It was often hard work, but we loved it and the result was our 'blank canvas' of 1998 was transformed into a beautiful and productive garden, which I hope you have enjoyed reading about in this blog.
But tide and time wait for no man and sad to say I am no longer able to give the garden the attention it deserves. It would break my heart to see it fall into disrepair, so the time has come to move on.
I will continue this blog in memory of 15 happy years gardening, but I don't have a garden at the moment so will start by telling the story of the last 9 months, so if you want to read the story from the beginning, please click here.

Here’s a question. What can you buy for 48p these days? (That’s just short of 10 bob for those of you happier pre-decimal)

It’s becoming a daily routine, walk around the field and see what bizarre or grizzly thing you can find that wasn’t there yesterday, and so it was today.

As the title suggests, this post is all about getting the garden ready for winter, which, if it’s anything like last year, came early and severely, long before Xmas.

Having a big garden means that as well as producing fruit, veg and flowers, we also produce a lot of rubbish. By this I mean weeds, prunings, hedge trimmings and the like, most of which we compost, but some we have to burn. On average we have a bonfire twice a year.

There isn’t much gardening getting done here at the moment, it’s far too hot, so here is a little conundrum for you to ponder.

A few days ago I wrote about 30 sparrows on the lawn, well yesterday I think I had another sparrow record.
