Today I cleared the last of the tomatoes out of the conservatory and brushed it out ready for it’s annual clean with Jeyes fluid.

Today we cut the remaining hedges. When I say ‘we’ Peter does the cutting, and I do the clearing up, an equally important job given the wicked disposition of hawthorn hedging.

Today we gave ourselves a day off and visited the annual open day of the Lincolnshire Trust For Cats, which is held not far from where we live. I love my garden as you know, but my first love is actually cats.

Today I dug up about half of the first of my potato beds, Aron Pilot. Results were a bit variable in size, but in total I got 15lbs 12oz, which isn’t bad for a start.

Today we said goodbye to an old friend. Our Flymo Turbolite 400 finally gave up and died. He was no longer in the first flush of youth, in fact he was 8 years old and hadn’t been well for a while, but it was still a sad moment.

What a disaster. Only 2 days ago I was thinking how well my cauliflowers were doing. Yesterday when I looked they were like umbrella skeletons, no leaves left at all. I’m so upset.

The plug plants are now all planted out, either in tubs or in the garden. It’s up to them now, but so far they’re disappointing. Let’s hope they prove me wrong.
