Ornamental grasses. What’s all that about then? It’s a mystery to me, I just don’t get them.

Today we were driving along and a council gardening team were just finishing up planting a selection of ornamental grasses down the central reservation. The chap was watering them in with a large hosepipe.

They looked like neatly spaced dead weeds, I would be pulling them out if they were in my garden. I suppose I should reserve judgement until I’ve seen the finished, mature article, but I’ll take some convincing.

I’ve also seen these grasses in other peoples gardens and on TV gardening programmes and in garden centres. Try as I may, I just do not know what they’re about. I’ve spent countless hours pulling out similar looking things from my own garden as weeds.

Am I missing something here?
