Moved

Building a garden from scratch is easier said than done, but for 15 years that is exactly what we did at Ravendale House.

It was often hard work, but we loved it and the result was our 'blank canvas' of 1998 was transformed into a beautiful and productive garden, which I hope you have enjoyed reading about in this blog.

But tide and time wait for no man and sad to say I am no longer able to give the garden the attention it deserves. It would break my heart to see it fall into disrepair, so the time has come to move on.

I will continue this blog in memory of 15 happy years gardening, but I don't have a garden at the moment so will start by telling the story of the last 9 months, so if you want to read the story from the beginning, please click here.

Have I spoken too soon about getting rid of the old tree? I do hope not, but it’s now 10 days since I was feeling smug about it, and no sign of further progress.

Today started in a fairly normal way. A visit from the squirrel with two arms, a pair of pheasants and the gang of long-tailed tits. I think I counted 8 this time. Just before lunch I got a brief glimpse of a moorhen, for the first time in months. Could my little friend from last year have returned?

Back in November I wrote with pride about my lovely red geraniums and how they were still flowering. Then in December I wrote again about how they were suffering from a combination of geranium rust and extreme cold. In short most of them looked dead.

I went out looking for snowdrops a few days ago, but not a sign. Then this morning I notice one single snowdrop flowering by the back door. I know one snowdrop doesn’t make a Spring, but at least it makes you feel like we’re going in the right direction at last.

I think it’s pretty well accepted these days, that the best things in life are free, and today I proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

From the title you could be forgiven for thinking this is a story more suited to my other website, 1001cats.com but you’d be mistaken.
