Today was glorious, but cold, so after lunch I ventured into the garden with my wheelbarrow. I’m not sure if this was a smart move or not.

Today started in a fairly normal way. A visit from the squirrel with two arms, a pair of pheasants and the gang of long-tailed tits. I think I counted 8 this time. Just before lunch I got a brief glimpse of a moorhen, for the first time in months. Could my little friend from last year have returned?

I went out looking for snowdrops a few days ago, but not a sign. Then this morning I notice one single snowdrop flowering by the back door. I know one snowdrop doesn’t make a Spring, but at least it makes you feel like we’re going in the right direction at last.

Today the mistle thrush visited the garden again, the second time in 2 days.

Today, perhaps due to the bad weather, saw the return of a much loved, but  infrequent visitor to the garden, the mistle thrush. Once again it was the pull of the windfall apples that did it.

I’m pleased to announce that my little one-armed bandit is alive and well. I put the bird food out at about 8.30am and by 8.45am he had arrived and was tucking into some peanuts.

It’s snowing again, just like the forecast said it would. I hope it’s not as bad as last time. At least we have plenty of food in now. I went shopping yesterday and took part in what I can only describe as ‘controlled panic buying’.

Well, on Thursday 09.12.10 we finally made it to the supermarket for some much needed shopping. It was the first time we had been out in 2 weeks. What a relief. I never thought I would ever be so pleased to go food shopping.

Tomorrow it will be just 2 weeks since I did any shopping. We haven’t actually been snowed in all that time but it certainly feels like it. We’ve probably been unable to get out for about 9 days.
