Now that’s a title I didn’t expect to be using about the summer of 2012, but credit where it’s due, 2012 has been a good year for blackcurrants. Or at least it’s been a good year for mine.

Yesterday I picked 5lbs of them for jam making, not as many as previous years but to be honest, as I’m the only one who eats it, and I still have 4 jars from last year, I’m actually sick of the stuff. But, waste not want not.

If I had spent the rest of the day picking and the rest of my life topping and tailing them, I could easily have picked 3 times that amount. The bush was weighed down with big, fat, juicy, ripe fruits.

By the end of the day I had another 10 jars of jam which, added to what I already have, will probably last me a couple of years, yippee!! Still think of all that Vitamin C.
