Today I sowed some tomato and broad bean seeds, the weather, after a bright start isn’t fit to do much else as it is cold and very windy and now it’s just started snowing!

We grow our tomatoes in the conservatory and have room for about 18 plants. I’ve sown the same 8 varieties as last year, 3 seeds per pot, covered with cling film on the kitchen window-sill.

When planted out the broad beans take up one whole vegetable bed (16′ x 4′ ) which is 54 plants. I’ve sown 60 in modules to allow for a few ‘no shows’. They can sit in the conservatory, where they will germinate quite happily with no heat.

I’ve sown half and half, ‘Bunyards Exhibition’ and ‘Aquadulce’, not for any clever reason, just because I ran out of last years seeds.

Tomorrow I will turn my attention to peas.
