“In the space of 48 hours I have lost my dream home (for the umpteenth time) and lost our buyer. How much worse can it get? I must have aged 10 years.”

Having offered to complete on the 17th and heard nothing by our deadline of 5pm, the next message just made us plain angry.

Now our buyer wanted to complete on Friday the 14th as they were going on holiday!

Several things to point out here.
Firstly, Friday would be the 13th not the 14th.
Secondly, why give us the crap about ‘cramped’ and ‘mortgage deadlines’?
Thirdly, if I was 24 again (I wish) and starting out my married life in a 3 bedroom detached house in beautiful countryside with large garden, I would be so excited a holiday would be the last thing on my mind.
Our first house was a one-up-one-down, and we haven’t been away on holiday since 1980. Am I beginning to sound bitter and twisted? Well yes I probably am!!

However I digress. Even though we’re not superstitious Friday 13th seemed like a bad day to move, so reluctantly we settled on Thursday the 12th. This would give us just 3 weeks, less a Bank Holiday, all we had to do now was find somewhere to rent for 6 months.

A task that turned out to be easier said than done.

I tried to convince myself that this was ‘good’ news, after all we had our buyer back and all talk of a discount had gone away, but somehow I just wasn’t convinced.
