Due to the prolonged spell of poor weather, yes I know I sound like a broken record, lots of gardening stuff has been neglected this year. Yesterday the sun shone briefly and I decided to go empty my wheelbarrow which was beginning to look like a poorly maintained swimming pool!

I tipped out most of the water and then set off to the compost heap to empty the remaining soggy contents. Imagine my surprise and delight when I came upon this by the raspberry canes.

There it was amongst the weeds and opium poppies (which grow like weeds but I love them), a 5 foot tall, pale pink Larkspur. I guess it must have grown from a seed blown from one of the Larkspur I planted last year in front of the house.

The above picture doesn’t really do it justice, so here’s another one.

I think it will take a better picture when more of it’s flowers are out, but who knows if or when that will happen, or if the sun will be shining when it does.

Suffice to say it was an unexpected serendipity, and you can never have too many of them.
