About a week ago I suddenly realised I couldn’t hear anything, I was surrounded by complete silence. Was I worried? Not at all, as I quickly realised the silence was due to a lack of  starlings.

As if by magic every one of the nests dotted around the eaves of the house had fallen silent. There wasn’t a sound out of any of them. Curiously there wasn’t a sign of adolescent starlings squabbling on the lawn either, yet there were still lots of adults around.

I can only assume that when the baby birds fledge they go somewhere safe, probably high up in a tree somewhere, still watched over by mum and dad, whilst they find their feet, or perhaps I should say earn their wings!

As regards the weather, yesterday was hot and sunny, today is cloudy and grey. Need I say more?
