Today I weeded flower bed 1, no really, I actually did weed flower bed 1, and then I went on to weed under the old apple trees, and one of the raspberry beds. After that I’d had enough.

The ground elder is rampant in this smallest raspberry bed, but very difficult to dig out. Whilst I was struggling with it, one of the resident robins came down to check things out. They really are good at spotting such ‘food’ opportunities. Very cheeky too, I swear he was within 2′ of me at one point. I’m not sure but I think we might have a pair of thrushes living in the garden too, they really are handsome birds.

The blackbirds are everywhere. I watched two of them in the drive first thing this morning, and I swear the same two were still there after tea. I couldn’t work out if they were very good friends or bitter rivals, but either way it was very entertaining to watch.

Then last night I saw one of the hedgehogs for the first time this year. He may have been before, as the cat food I put out each night always disappears, but I’d assumed it was the stray cat who was eating it, maybe it was the hedgehog. Having said that I’ve seen both the blackbird and the robin helping themselves too.
