This morning I decided to weed flower bed 1. I’ve done it a hundred times before so I just thought it was going to be a normal day. As I was digging something caught my eye, shining in the sunshine. On closer inspection, and to my absolute delight, I discovered is was a gold coin.

Now I have to say at this point that it has long been my ambition to find some kind of ‘buried treasure’, and living quite close to a Roman road, I always lived in hope, but this was beyond my wildest dreams.

It was about the size of a 10p piece, and a quick wash under the tap revealed it’s beautiful colour, and also allowed me to see some of it’s markings, though these were faint andunintelligible to me. I was so excited I could hardly speak.

I ran to tell Peter and show him what I’d found. He agreed it was an interesting find and after some discussion and a few minutes in the Yellow Pages, we decided to take it to the museum in Lincoln, to seek information about it and advice on how we should proceed, legally, after all I didn’t want to be found guilty of looting or anything like that.

So that’s where we are off to now. Watch this space.
